Very bad. There are some positive things that I've always had 40h / week, and fixed hours from 7 am to 15 pm. But the job is a disaster, and don't think it's up to me, the boy who works the same summer (2018) as a bellman a year ago was a groundkeeper, and he was delighted at the same level as mine, but it was better for him since they were two guys, and I've been doing it alone all the time, which killed me. I was looking for at least 32 hours a week, and I had a fight with the manager, so I asked for another accommodation (independent of the current employer) from the beginning of July, and I didn't succeed, because the situation with accommodation is disaster, it is impossible to find something else. But with the same employer OPL (3 hotels and restaurants) I recommend the position of the server, and especially bellman (they turn very good money and a easy job).

Great position, those who go to this program to learn English and develop their communication skills, this job is a great opportunity for this. You will not make big money working on this position, but you will work in a perfect environment and get to know a lot of great people. Bar Harbor is a small place but the opportunity for a good income is everywhere so if your goal is to make as much money as you can, you will not make a mistake again. It is definitely a recommendation to everyone who plans to go on a work and travel program.

I worked as a bellman at the Bar Harbor Regency - Holliday Inn, 40 hours per week without the possibility of overtime, the hourly rate $ 7.5 + tip. As for tips, there are no rules. It happened to me that I could hardly raise one week $ 250 kickback while I had a nearly 700 $ (but it was only one week: D). Let's say the average is somewhere around 400 $ a week. Since you pay immediately charged accommodation and taxes. Accommodation was $ 95 and taxes of some $ 30-odd week. Check duly arrived every Friday at 2h. The essence of the job is to be kind, to help guests with luggage on arrival and departure of moving from room to room, as well as providing information about the hotel, attractiveness and developments on the island. Business itself is such that you will meet many different people and you will have some very interesting experiences that will make you more beautiful days. Some of my advice for future Belma that they are always smiling, friendly, cultural, editorial, and to place themselves in the position of "ambassador" of the hotel. You are the first person guests will get in touch, so you should leave the best impression. You need to set up to appeal to guests and eventually become friends with them. Believe me it is much better to achieve good contact with the guests and therefore if you time pass faster and nicer and you will not have to worry for the tip :). Not everyone is in the mood for a communication to you to judge when and how to set up the way you think it should be, but always doing their job professionally and properly. The hotel consists of 3 buildings and a house that is used for weddings and conferences. There are a total of 288 rooms and usually one Belma shift. Some guests do not ask for help, but sometimes you just 10 of them seeks the same time, so be ready for the chase. There is also the worst she sorta what you take carts and does not return to you a basic working tool. Not by chance does not give the guest the last trolley and always have one that will hide in the event that you and the last to disappear. The staff was great and I gained many friendships. The management is very friendly and you can always contact them anything that you need. As for food, there are 2 restaurants within the hotel and can be ordered, and has a free meal during the shifts for all employees, as well as a buffet at 11am. Pica are free and of course it is forbidden to consume alcohol. We had no pool attendant so I next to my main job had to change towels at the pool, which is in the season was very hard. Also, when I have time, I helped other colleagues in other positions. The company provides you with accommodation, with whom I so satisfied. It is a house (former hotel) with about 20 rooms, a common kitchen, dining room, 2 living rooms, laundry, 2 large terraces and a spacious yard. Rooms for 2,3,4 or 5 people. Each room has its own bathroom, towels, bed linen, fridge, microwave, tv, wifi, ... There are jobs for everyone who wants to work. I really did not need the extra work because I earn enough. My advice is to enjoy the beauty of Bar Harbor, unite and do not overdo it as to the additional jobs, but it all depends on what your goals are staying in USA. Hello :)

I worked on the position of the Expo in the kitchen in a restaurant corporation OPL. I started in Stewmans Lobster Pound and I can tell you that this position has its advantages and disadvantages. Still after all I think that for the first year was good and beneficial to the next, and here's why. It is a position where you are in constant conversation with the kitchen and the front of the house work, which includes servers and foodrunners. The job was to sort food on large trays and add some pre-determined contributions. Work carries a certain stress, but it does help for improvement of the English language. The bad side is that you do not have tips, which is in my opinion the most important in the US, if you want to earn more. Yet all in all, ok position for the first year of the program, since you can find another job and align it very easily. Employers have always been correct and coming out to meet me for another job so that from that side do not have to worry. What we need to know that the job is not easy and Expo is not a fairy tale but it also has its good side. On the other job I was foodrunner in one of the many restaurants and you can really all the best to say about the position due to employers and there never had a problem and I will definitely be back there again next year.

OPL, Bar Harbor, Maine, Work and Travel Group
8 years agoWage per hour: 7.5 Number of hours per week: 40 without the possibility of overtime Average tip: 350-500 The first job was Bellman. Very easy, nice and fun job. The task was to open doors for guests, give them advice about restaurants and attractions on the island to help them with bags or any requirements (not of a sexual nature), no matter how they were twisted. Also, training for this job does not exist. You need to see how things work. The point is that you need to be trash and impose the people to help them, and they will reward you for that (read give a tip). The one who goes to Bar Harbor Regency Holliday inn advise to cover the trolleys (carts and two alpha Bellman you can see in the figure below biggrin.gif) as we did. I guarantee Bellman from this hotel until the end of the summer will be sick of towels and will curse the one who invented them, but let it remain a surprise biggrin.gif I would be a very bad man, not to share with you the sacred rule Bellman - Do not give the last trolley to the guest! If they take the stroller you'll not have something to help other guests with. In addition to running around and new experiences every day, the real beauty of this job is that you get to know a large number of people with whom enjoy a very close relationship. Naturally, there are a number of people that you want to smack in their head. When I draw the bottom line, there were more people who were very nice to me and careful then those sons of bitches that called me a jerk biggrin.gif I was allowed everything, so it's easy to slack periods when you do not feel like doing, but of course the job was with a tip so that you lose a lot money by goofing off. As far as the tip there were good days, and there were some bad. Average weekly I had $ 175 + $ 400-500 tip. The biggest daily tip $ 172, the minimum $ 32. Job no. 2 was in the restaurant as well, as I like to say, Joker. If necessary, have been expo, foodrunner, host, busser and finally even a dishwasher. Salary was always the same (10 $), except that I had a tip as a busser. Job no. 3 was in the club that was located above the restaurant (same owner and connected to the club with a restaurant). Here my job was to stand at the door and check the document. Fin little job, where are you looking at hanging out while the clock is ticking
